📋 Introduction

My Task Timer is a Chrome extension designed for time tracking, hydration reminders, and task organization — built with a strong focus on user privacy. This policy transparently explains what data is collected, how it is stored, and with whom it is shared.

📊 Data We Collect

The extension stores the following data locally on your device:

Projects and Tasks: Names, descriptions, notes, rates, and recorded time
Work Sessions: History of timed intervals per task
Hydration Settings: Daily water goal, reminder schedules, and daily intake logs
Calendar Events: Events and reminders created by the user
Pomodoro Settings: Focus and break session durations
User Preferences: Theme, language, time/date format, and interface settings

🚫 Data We Do NOT Collect

❌ Browsing history or visited sites
❌ Location data
❌ Passwords or financial credentials
❌ Analytics, telemetry, or usage data of any kind
❌ Data from other sites or applications

💾 How We Store Data

Local Storage

All data is stored exclusively on your device using:

Chrome Storage API: For settings and preferences
IndexedDB: For projects, tasks, and work sessions

            🔐 Important: No data is ever sent to our own servers. My Task Timer has no backend infrastructure.
        

☁️ Optional Google Drive Backup

Sync Feature

The extension offers a fully optional backup and synchronization feature with Google Drive. This feature is disabled by default and is only activated with your explicit consent.

When you enable sync:

The extension requests the drive.file OAuth 2.0 scope — the most restrictive scope available for Drive access.
With this scope, the extension can only access files it created itself. It has no access to any other files in your Google Drive.
A single backup file (my_task_timer_sync.json) is created inside a folder called "My Task Timer Backups" in your Drive.
Authentication is handled 100% by Chrome Identity API — the extension never sees your Google password.
No Drive data is shared with third parties or sent to external servers.
You can revoke access at any time: myaccount.google.com/permissions

We do NOT share your data with any third parties.

✅ The only external service used is Google Drive, and only when backup is explicitly enabled by the user

Play alarm sounds in the background via an offscreen document.

Optional OAuth 2.0 authentication with Google Drive for backup sync.

📤 Data Export

Export all your task data at any time using the "Export to Excel" feature
Data is saved as an .xlsx file directly to your computer
The process is completely local — no data is sent to any server

🗑️ Data Deletion

Local Data

Use the individual deletion functions in the extension interface
Or go to chrome://extensions/, find "My Task Timer", and click "Remove"
Or use the "Clear Data" option in the extension settings

Google Drive Backup

Manually delete the "My Task Timer Backups" folder from your Google Drive
Or revoke app access at: myaccount.google.com/permissions

            ℹ️ Note: When you uninstall the extension, all local data is automatically removed by Chrome. Any backup file in Google Drive remains until you manually delete it.
